Subject: Woot, no leaks!

Well it was a fairly productive weekend. Finished my swirl pot, got it all tied up and my walbro pump in. Started er up, no leaks! Apparantly all that practice welding aluminum paid off. I didn't measure capacity but close to 2 liters. Its a e21 in tank for the lift pump, and a Walbro gs392 high pressure. I read that pump was loud, but HOLY )(*#&$&)(, that thing will wake the neighbors. Even though it would be huge overkill and totally uneccesary, I'm sorry I didn't get the Bosch 044 pump. Quieter and would last a lifetime (knock against the Walbros is noise and dependability, so "they" say").

I'll end up re-doing the lines slightly, and I'm not happy with the tank side aluminum cover as it will be a pain if I have to take the intank pump or gas tank out, so I'll redo that slightly different, but that can wait. Still have to weld in a few brackets here and there and then I can paint.

Exhaust is now fully complete. 3" all the way, OVER the subframe, and a Borla in the back. No rattles while revving the bejesus out of the car on the hoist. Debated on how to tip it, decided on simple - polished stainless straight out. Done and done.

Next stop, rear coilovers. Need to push the lower mount points in a bit to gain more clearance as the sleeves are virtually hitting the tires, and I don't want to run spacers as then my tires will rub.

Matt

ps on the right, a '53 5window sitting on a s10 frame. LONG term project. Looonnnggggg.

Oh yeah, forgot to take a pic. I'll grab one. Nothing special.

BTW, over the last few years of using fittings such as aeroquip, xrp, russel, earls, and summit brand...i've come to the conclusion they are all pretty good, except for Earls. They are complete crap. Shame on you Earl. Bad maching and tolerances, anodizing looks like it was painted on by a 4 year old. I'm sticking to aeroquip or summit (which i'm sure come from a variety of suppliers, but the ones I have used have all been good).

Very nice Matt. You are aluminum TIGing now? Since i have been out of it for a good while, do you have a page or something detailing what you have done to your car? I can tell you have made some major changes there. I am guessing turbo now?

Yep sold my e36 and bought a Syncro200 and paid off some bills. TIG is a lot of fun, I started with mild steel and thought I was a master...then I tried aluminum and realized I was an idiot :). I'm getting the hang of it now though, practice practice practice. Car is m20turbo, megasquirt, f/r coilovers, massive brakes in front and aluminum 2000vw in the back (with parking brake of course), and all the usual other stuff. Glad to see you're back in the game DHS !

Oztom..I'm not sure, the blue unit in the back is an Earls filter(gasp), I'll grab the p/n. I had it lying around for a few years so figured I would use it as a prefilter to the Walbro inline pump. Its an efi unit but wondering if its what is causing my Walbro to whine like its dying (can't suck enough fuel through it). Maybe the sintered bronze filter is all gummed up. I have a bigass Canton Mecca filter in the engine bay as the main filter. Too bad its hidden by the intercooler piping, its red and adds 5hp ! ha.
