Went in '92. I was 17. Troop 100 Kensington CA. Loved being at the top of Lover's Leap and yelling down to another group on the trail below "hello down there, where are you from." Shosck and suprise when their reply was "San Rafael CA". San Rafael is only 15 miles from Kensington! There were Troops from all around the world there but to bump into guys from so close to home was amazing.
Another great memory was that we took the train there instead of renting vans or flying. A stop at the grand art deco Union Station in Los Angles, following Route 66 across the desert, day dreaming of all the cool cars waiting for me in all those desert junk yards, a stop over in Flagstaff.... Still haven't rented that trailer to go pick one out and drag it home yet.
I never did get past Star but I do have 5 50 miler patches, at least 4 more than any of my Eagle Scout friends! :b....
Anybody else remember the real yeast infused Root Beer at the Cantina? I think I had many gallons that night. And that sunrise over NM, OMG! Ahhh, good times.
