I got a crack in my windshield yesterday and called my insurance company to set up the replacement. They're coming out to my work today to replace it....supposedly.
Anyone want to place bets on whether or not they call me sometime today to tell me that they don't have a 2002 windshield, gasket, seal and lockstrip in stock? _________________ ClayW

That rust wont even slow them down. if they do come up with an aftermarket seal they will put it in right over the rust and say thank you. sorry but ive had horrible experiences with mobile glass installers. i hope your situation turns out differently but i would be there supervising if i were you _________________

I will DEFINITELY be outside supervising. I just hope he doesn't bring an aftermarket seal. _________________ ClayW

where do you find clear glass instead of green tinted glass. Mine's got clear and the glass place I went to said green tint was "factory"

" You don't think he can reuse the gasket?"
"No Ma'am. It's a little old, cracked and dry."
"Hmmm....that's not available.....it'll be about a week."
"Great."
Of course, that means that I'll most likely be driving around with a cracked windshield until after the 4th of July weekend. Yippee! _________________ ClayW

Sorry but...why dont you buy one instead of arguing ? it is obvious that the average windshield installer dont have it in stock.
FCP Groton sells them on the shelf. They can probably ship it very fast.
And as far as i remember, they fit perfect.

devils advocate here...
the claim is to replace a windshield...not to make repairs for any existing rust damage
to simply replace the windshield over rust, if there is any completes their responsibility to the insurance company and the insured
if you suspect rust in that typically rusty place...i'd hustle to get the old glass out and clean it up and at least smack a bit of rust-o-leum in there before the new glass shows up......save yourself some angst _________________

Insurance....that's why. I figure that patience = saved money. They'll find one and replace it...they get paid for it by my insurance company and I only pay the $50 deductable for the replacement. A seal, lockstrip and lock clip total over $100.....I'll just let my insurance company do their job.
My only curiousity is how they can source a new windshield overnight but it takes a week to get a gasket. _________________ ClayW

ah, sorry i didnt knew it was an insurance issue...but as other suggested, if you already know that there is rust and that the gastket is bad, its not the insurance fault or the installer fault...i think you will have to use a bit of your own elbow grease to fix that. _________________ 1976 turbocharged 2002, 14psi, T3, 70%LSD, urethane bush, 36x15 intercooler, 63mm tby,SDS EM4F, 5sp overdrive.
