Subject: Removing spray paint off clear coat

Hello Everyone,
Well today, well technically yesterday now my house was broken into and the punks tagged up the house and my Golf car in the garage. They didn't too much to the car just a few sprays or red on the tail panel. It has been about 12 hours by estimates of strange people in the neighborhood by some neighborhood. Someone might know how to remove this better then I do and don't want to try anything drastic yet before I get some opinnions to remove it. I was thinkgin clay bar since it is supposed to remove over spray.

I guess I am lucky not a whole lot was taken, just a digital camera and a Playstation 3 with a few games and a set of walkie talkies. They also tagged the inside of the house and my brand new Sony LCD TV. I am glad that no one was home and they did not go to the next door neighbors house with just his wife and a little girl and baby in the house during the day. I happened mid day right around 12pm they believe since those people came banging on the neighbors doors. Man I feel violated, but at least the guy was a dumbass (excuse my language) and left a nice full hand print and a couple finger prints everywhere that they lifted so I hope they catch that SOB. Now to try ang get some sleep, don't think much of that will happen for teh next few nights.... TIA for any help!

That's terrible.

Time for some of these:

I'd try the clay bar.

I hope they get the little............I too had my house broken into six years ago, changed my perspective on home security.

Acetone should be safe to remove the spray paint with out hurting the clear, a good wash and wax to follow. As for the Sony you might try to clean a corner of it with one of those Mr. Clean eraser pads, call the Sony tech line and see what they suggest.

Glad no one was hurt!

that is terrible, makes one feel very vulnerable, glad no one was home. As for the paint, it is hard to hurt clear coats, unless it is freshly painted and not cured. We usually take a rag with some lacquer thinner (acetone should work too), and then follow with some compound, polish and wax.

BTW main reason to wax your car today, is not to provide shine, but to keep a protective barrier, like a sacrificial layer, it can be removed along with the contaminants, but it should be re-applied often to maintain the protection.

Do a test on a corner, and evaluate results, as not all clear coats are created equal too.

Thanks for the help everyone. I think I'll try the clay 1st because it won't hurt anything and then try the acetone. I was pretty much up all last night researching security systems and cameras so i have a feeling that i will get one soon. Now to clean up and get some sleep and try to go back to normal...
