If it's just where the "drains" are, I would just pop the old ones out ( hit them with a screwdriver and hammer and it will turn and come out ), grind away the rust, and cut off what you can.

Then cut a template out of cardboard, and trace it to a piece of sheetmetal, check the fit, and weld it in. Give it about a half inch of over lap as well. Paint it from both sides with an anti-rust paint, and Por-15 or equivalent.

I believe factory sheet metal is 20 gauge, but use 18 or even 16 if you can. I used 16 when I redid the floors on my chamonix, and it was a real pain to shape and cut, but the thickness of the metal help a lot in carrying the heat when I was welding. This helped prevent blowing though the metal.

And get a heavy piece of copper to back up the weld. The buss bar out of an old electrical panel works well, or cut a piece of 1 1/2" cu pipe and flatten it. Kinda prop it up under the area you are welding. It will make the welding much easier for you.

what's the purpose of the copper? heat absorption?
