Subject: Bay Area - Gas Station without Rubber boot

Anyone know of any gas stations in Dublin, Pleasanton or San Ramon that does not have a rubber boot?

I can't seem to keep the gas off my new paint.

I hear ya. I work in Dublin. I have yet to find one in the surround area. Doesn't sound like Ray has either! The Valero on Amador Valley has the worst nozzles of them all for our cars so I'd avoid that place. The 76 has the rubber boot, but if you can get the right angle you won't spill. I swear I'm going to have a strained something or another from the crazy angle I have to get the nozzle to not spill.

I'm going. There are a few others that are in the Dublin/SR/Pleasanton area. Maybe we can set up a place to meet like the Chevron on Dublin Blvd and San Ramon Rd?

In my experience, new Shells have the retarded boot. But it's very flexible and the nozzle inside is skinny. I like filling here now, cuz I am able to compress it well enough to turn the nozzle down into the tank. The first couple tries I hit straight against the back of the tube and sprayed out, but if you position it right, you can almost completely seal the openings, and send gas straight down the filler.

The long accordian boots are the worst. I find the short, flange-like boots to be the best.

It often helps to rotate the nozzle 120-180 degrees so it's nearly vertical (hose coming out the top) rather than horizontal. Then you rotate it more or less so the gas stream hits the inside of the tank's metal fill pipe inside the rubber filler boot. If the stream hits the top edge of the fill pipe, it splashes out.
