Subject: B-Line in San Jose vs. A shop in the NY area

Hi guys,

My 02 is about to come out of having its mechanicals done...want to send her to the body shop for new paint and some attention. The car is in CA, where she's from, I live in NY and will drive her back sometime soon.

I'm from the Bay Area and had used B-Line in San Jose before. I thought they did a wonderful job matching (at the time 20yr) old paint and making my dented fender look like new (but not too new).

I'd like to have this car repainted, un-dented, and re-chromed. I found sports-car-restoration.com in NY (using the search) and they look great. I also have some other numbers for shops (that don't seem to specialize in BMW's).

Question: does anyone feel very strongly about either of these 2 shops? Can I expect different prices from different locations?

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Keep in mind that Dubois has a shop south of the Bay Area in Hollister. Might wanna talk to him privately to see what he thinks/charges. I've seen people give a few shops around the bay area a thumbs up, I just can't come up with those posts in my searches right now for some reason. Just keep in mind that good bodywork/paint is never cheap. I believe this is definitely one of those areas you get exactly what you pay for.

Not many ~good~ shops will take in a 2002 for paint. Not a money maker for them by any means.

B-line has had a very good reputation for many years.

Michael has sworn off 2002s. Or maybe it was just mine. Or maybe he just swore at mine. :^)

Either way, find a shop that has a good reputation, and one that you can work with to get what you want. In the case of body and paint, you do get what you pay for.

I think you probably forgot to bring him Ice Cream, so he swore at you, and your car. :)

Laugh!!!

You guys are too much.

To clarify, I love to work on 2002's, but as a hobby. Owning a small body shop, I have to stay conscious how I utilize our resources, so I can pay the bills and meet payroll. It takes an incredible amount of work to re paint, let alone restore a car. It is very difficult to turn a profit, it is just "fun" work.

There are, however, restoration shops geared and managed as such. I doubt B-line is one of them, they are mostly a large BMW collision shop. I think they would still do a repaint, but for a price.

Next car to be painted in our shop is Bacchus, that is if my office manager lets me!

Well, far be it from me to deny you a bit of fun!

;-)

My car is actually 3 different colors, not including rust! When do u want it? ;-)

To the OP, Sports Car Restoration certainly seems to have an excellent rep. Maybe you can drop by and have a look. Pkuchay's car is there
