I've always been a Volvo fan. This new model looks cool.

My girl and I went down to 3rd Street Prominade in Santa Monica a couple of weeks ago and Volvo had a few of these cars there. They were giving free test drives and had one on display. From what I saw there was not much interior room and I thought it looked rather funky. It did have a turbocharged engine and some nice wheels. Still, a hot hatch from Volvo seems weird.

I have a coupla 850 wagons (normally aspirated) with 17" OEM wheels that I consider semi-hot grocery getters at least from an appearance perspective. The C30 is going to be cursed with the Volvo name as it tries to break into that "hot hatch" niche. It will probably sell in low numbers and become the platform for new S40/V50 in a few years. Consumers (generally) don't think "hot" when they think Volvo. They often forget that the R's have 300hp and are wicked fast even without an ECU upgrade. But, I am "objectively biased". Been driving Volvos for 17 years and love them...almost as much as my BMWs.

I have owned our volvo for 5 years now and we just love it. You can find the "brick" style turbo wagons for a song and get a lot performance. I'm familiar with IPD and plan on getting the stage 3 kit for our wagon.

Funny that it was sorta Volvo (well,MGBGT) that started the hot hatch with the P1800ES back in 73-74.
I have had 7 or so Volvos over the years all 140 and 240 series. IPD sure can help your Volvo get around a corner.
The last one I had was a 145 that had all kinds of mods. Motor, Megasquirt, springs, sway bars, Turbo wheels, 4sp with od, it was way too much fun. I would bring it to the auto X and my friends would all want to go on my runs.

IMHO Volvo's should be damn near square.

This looks like a bad cross between a later model VW and a Hundai.
