I've been out of the 2002 game for about a year now. For anybody that is curious I have been dinking with the 71' Mustang, the drive-train is now done, but is spread all over my garage.
Non-BMW projects have included the "Fargo" chipper as I affectionately call it. The chipper is an FMC drum style with a 318 cubic inch Dodge industrial engine on it. It was built some time in the late 60's or early 70's and is scary as all hell, but was really effective at reducing an unbelievable amount of brush into about 25 cubic yards of chips. The mechanical governor took a dump on it, along with all four of the drum drive belts... all fixed now.
The other project was this 1939 Caterpillar D2 3J Dozer. I cannot fully explain how cool the old dozers are, they are built to a level far beyond overkill. I was able to borrow this one as long as I fixed it. After figuring out that two of the four individual injection pumps were bad, and purchasing two rebuilt ones I got it running. Other than changing every dam fluid in it (gallons and gallons of oil), and fixing a few minor things it has been great. If any of you guys have property and want a great project I recommend you get one of these things. Screw import compact tractors that have the pulling power of a golf cart, this old thing can pull or push most anything. I cleared a massive amount of brush with it, I could work a huge ball of brush with the blade (looked like a dung beetle).
Enjoy the 2002's and check out the video!
