Every vintage BMW car that is a driver, race car or show car over 20 years old has Mobile Tradition parts on them. You can't get that sheet metal , rims, gauges, bumpers, emblems, glass, decals, rubber and trim from Home Depot
I think Mobile Traditions manufactures, stocks, ships and inventories over 4,000 parts for vintage BMWS. You can build 90% of a 2002 from Mobile Tradition parts.
Mobile Traditions maintains and shows all of BMW's vintage race and show cars and ensures BMW vintage racers are supported with parts and knowledge.
That is more than nuts and bolts from Home Depot.
Interested in why you think Mobil Traditions is only nuts and bolts. _________________ 1972 2000tii Touring

I guess you're new here!
Go here, check the History, then enter the parts section.
http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/
As Bill mentioned, you can get pretty much everything for your '02 thanks to Mobile Tradition.
Use Home Depot for deck building, not '02s. _________________ Les

It depends what website you are looking at.
BMW Mobile Tradition is:
www.bmw-mobiletradition.com
Maximillian BMW
www.bimmer.com
For clarification the first is BMW, the second is a parts reseller.

Sorry, but you are going to get a lot of crap, because of your last comment. I may suggest just asking a question, we all be glad to point you in the right direction. Mobile Tradition is one of the primary reason we choose to drive old BMW's, you may want to look at what they have accomplished recently:

I can understand your frustration searching anything in the internet, but then again, just ask the question, there really isn't any dumb question, really. We are mostly a bunch of humble guys, wanting to share whatever knowledge niche we have. _________________ 72 tii A4

For the most part, there just isn't enough market for parts for them for MT to reproduce 2000cs specific things, grilles, trim, interior parts etc... That said, there is probably more available from MT than what the website lets on. The parts documentation and number supersessions going back to the mid to late 60's are a little foggy (a lot more shows up on the micro-fiche that what comes up in the computerized catalog) and there are interchanges that have been discovered along the way that were never documented or intended by BMW. A significant amount of the mechanicals are the same or similar enough to the 02 and E9 coupes that they can be brought up to "driver" standards though. However, restoring low-production cars that don't have significant interest among serious collectors just isn't easy. Don't expect to find stuff like nose sheet metal, door panels, dashboards and stuff like that, there just aren't enough out there to be restored to make them.
However, if you're looking for a car you can restore by buying every little thing you need from a catalog, Camaro's and Mustangs are always nice :)

an '02, E9, E3, Neu, E12, E28 and the like that counts most of all, and MT isn't a consideration to anyone I know. The last place I'll go to again is the dealer (at least my local one, Bob Smith BMW) if there is any way to avoid it. I'm tired of supporting ripoff prices at the dealer. Last time it was the 18 buck exhaust gaskets. This week I called the dealer for a couple of '02 059 oil filters. Of course, they don't have them in stock, but they got them in two days. I figured I'd pickup an oil filter for the 533i too while I'm there. Last time I got them at the dealer the 059 was five bucks, and the 533i filter was four, and this was about two years ago.
Well, here's the cost this time:
059 list: 16.54 with BMWCCA discount 14.89 x 2
138 list: 17.02 with BMWCCA discount 15.32
Total including 8.25% tax for three filters: $48.82
I like the parts guys so I didn't stiff them for the filters, but I sure felt like doing so. I ordered, from BavAuto, points/cap/condenser/rotor and two 059 filters (@6.95 each) Thursday, and the total including shipping was 43.65. You can get the 059 filters even cheaper.
I've had it with the dealer. Do your local dealers charge these kinds of prices for filters, or is Bob Smith ripping off the parts purchasers (as their list price is well above MSRP)?

Sorry to intervene.
Definately don't mean to nitpik.
I just joined the site not too long ago.
I’m Very familiar with muscle cars and VW’s. I have just gotten into the 02 scene, within the last Month or so. (Very nice scene I might add).
You jest Mobile Tradition:::
I do not know of the Mobile Tradition that I read about on the FAQ. I listen to people Bitch, Cry & Whine about them and their lack of concern for us 02er’s or there screwed up web site, but have never had the pleasure of experiencing the moment. From what I have read is:: Nobody wants to pay for a true restoration. (If it is a original BMW part, You think you should get it for almost nothing or someone is boning you in the process.) Not a bad approach, Except, Remember the days when nobody took it to a dealer ( as you knew you were getting boned). It’s the Millennium. We are buying NOS parts off of E-bay for un-godlily amounts and thinking we got a deal. (It’s NOS). Yet if one of these guys on this site (or elsewhere) happens to have an original or correct BMW part, for a price that seems high, (even though you would double it in the frenzy of EBay) You Bitch.
The Mobile Tradition that I have followed from the first talk of it, was the Inka orange resurrection. This was well after being bitten by the German (Foreign) bug in 79. I was given an 02 for my Birthday last month from my Sister & Brother in-law. Now I look for guidance and the correct research and original parts to make it right. GTO, Cuda or VW & I can help you. BMW and I’m just starting out. It’s German so Bonus. I do know you can’t make it right for 6 Grand or so.
I ask for Original, This is the first car that I have started (and will) get back to the way it left the factory, and was told there is no original. (Not documented anyways. Ask an original owner and another original will tell you different).
Mobile Tradition found a way to make a car the way it came from the factory, Original. They used what stock parts that they had and re-manufactured original stock parts that they didn’t. This is something you do not see in any Automobile industry.
Follow Carroll Shelby and he Re-designs the pony. Mobile Tradition started like us (if I’m not mistaken: Original daily frame.) and rebuilt a car that was once popular. Not redesigned or replaced. REBUILT: With all the original parts that they could muster from their vast stock pile. (If I’m not mistaken: 25 or so parts that were NLA are now back in production from the result of this project). What are these parts worth to you??? We talk about original but settle for sewn seams in our door panels when the originals were heat stamped.
Starting to ramble but,
no restoration will return your original investment. Even if you hire the best, Barrett Jackson’s fees will knock you down to reality. (lesson learned from the Brother in-law). You love it and do it right for YOU or patch it and thank God for E-bay. I thank God for Mobile Tradition and the likes of you Old School die hards on this site (even though I’ve been told the Veterans have left long ago) and other sites to count on a accurate, quality restoration.
Obviously you have never shopped home depot or you would have known the nuts and bolts they sold you do not fit.
Nice photos Mr, Williams
Sorry, forgot to list the documentation of the Inka. (3 parts)

My local dealer (Classic BMW in Mentor Ohio) has been great. I go in with the part numbers and the prices I get from Real OEM and they always beat them.
However for a good deal there are many people / biz on here that do a great job.

I try not to buy ANYTHING at Home Depot. Maybe an occasional 2x4 or such. HD always seems to be a zoo where you can't get anything off of the top shelf, there is nobody around to help, and check out takes way too long. I finally realized that my local Hardware store, while it may not have as wide a selection or as good a price as HD or Lowes, does have most of the items I need and people that are willing or even eager to help. Besides, I am in and out and back home in 30 minutes, not an hour and 30 minutes.
If you are looking for hardware- try McMasterCarr. www.mcmaster.com
Buy it in bags of 50 and 100 and save bunches of money.
If you need one or two speacialty bolts, try the dealer. There is a chance they 'might' have it in stock.
If you are doing a project(brakes, suspension, etc...) contact one of the FAQ supporters like 2002Haus, Carl Nelson, Maximillian, BLUNT, Jack Fahuna, etc... These people will know ALL the parts you need for the job and can set you up with a package deal.
I use Mobile tradition as an information resource. I come to the FAQ for answers. _________________ Steve J
