Can anyone tell me (or show me with a pic) of how a radio setup like this:

Exactly fits into a console like this?:

I know it fits as pic 2 proves this. I'd just like to see how the radio is suspended from the back and exactly how it works (brackets, etc.). This is for short consoles only. I know how it works on post 71.5 consoles.

There is a sheet metal panel that gets bolted onto the back of the radio. Sort of a Z profile and as wide as the radio.

That is a strange set-up. As I recall, the ~early~ cars had the ashtray that pulled out of the dash, the hazard switch to the right of the instrument cluster, and no radio whatsoever.
The one in the second pic must be from an early 71 car where the pull out ashtray had been removed from the dash, but the hazard switch was still the old style up top. It sort of makes the ashtray panel look like an afterthought.

Thanks Steve.

Yeah, I have a console just like the second pic and would like to put a vintage radio as shown in the first pic but just couldn't see how to do it not to mention the angle is kind of weird.

Here's what I did with my short console in the Cab. Mark Parker fabricated a custom bracket that fit all my parts, including an Ipod connection. I would highly recommend his work.

Thanks,

Nice setup Mark. Forgot about the Parker consoles...

I still want to keep my little ash tray up there and just put an old skool radio in. At least I know I can go to him (Parker) if for some reason I can't come up with a way on my own...

It's bolted to the side panels.

Mine is a one-piece steel frame that the radio and speaker both mount to. It secures to the console with two screws on each side, but arranged vertically, not horizontally like the pics showing the bracket on the radio itself.

If you look closely at my picture below, you can see the screw heads on the side of the console. Yeah, it's kind of a weird angle, but it does fit. That's the original no-name mono radio in my car. It's broken now, but I've heard a little fishing line might fix the tuner...
