I did find something that makes the Dakar rally fit in with this thread. Former BTCC champion Yvan Muller is racing the Dakar this year.
As to some of the other comments: The cars may not be the most interesting, but in my opinion, the racing is MUCH more interesting to watch than F1. I enjoy F1. I like the technology. I'd much rather watch something that is a lot more evenly matched. BTCC and Aussie V8 Supercars do that pretty well.

I think V8 Supercars are pretty exciting to watch and the season this year has been really good. Although a big fat cheater won the championship by taking out the championship leader (1 point in front).
It has changed its agreement for TV rights in Australia and I will be interested to see how it goes this year for air time. I think it will really suffer as one channel is "The home of Motorsports" with F1, MotoGP, Champcars, WRC, V8's and their supports and most of the other major national championships...
When it came to Australian GP, in years gone by the V8s have been a support catagory and are widely recieved by the F1 drivers and teams as being such an exciting event. The reason why they could race together was that the TV coverage was through the same comapny, since it has changed, the V8s are off the line up for the F1. This is a huge loss for exposure, fan base, etc.

| f1reverb wrote: | now. The BTCC are entertaining, but the cars suck. The DTM is interesting but no BMWs. The Australian V8 Supercars have been on for a few weeks too, and the repeat is at midnight PST tonight. SPEED had the Nurburgring 24hrs on last week, and for a month or more had the A1 GP series and also a couple of Grand Prix Masters. The Le Mans Historic Races were last week too. It's too bad all the interesting road-racing has to wait and be compressed into the space between the end of the NASCAR year and the New Year. Other than the BTCC and the DTM, not much on SPEED now. The next DTM race is from the Norisring in Nuremberg, which is the old NSDAP (Nazi) Party stadium where the big events happened. Whenever you see the big Nazi eagle blown-up at a concrete stadium, that's the Norisring.

i think the eagle was on another building... the nurnberg had a huge concrete swastika at the Zeppelintribüne that was covered with a flag, then blown up...
the site where i found those pics said there was a huge WOODEN eagle there before the swastika, but obviously it was temporary... (as was the swastika...))))
but back on topic,,, i like aussie supercars best... crazy fucks!! :D _________________ - Rob S.
