Subject: Pedal box bushings

I have two large white pedal box bushings from 2002ad. Could I easily replace these without pulling the box? I will need the car in two days and I don't want to break a spring or get in over my head. One bushing is for the clutch pedal, the other is for the brake pedal. I'm pretty sure these are for the main pivot points at the bottom of each pedal arm. Am I crazy to think this could be a painless task?

Thanks

a bunch of other bushings. They only ones left to do f

Why do you want to replace those anyway? When I did the rebuild in the pic I did - but there are actually 2 of those cyl. bushings for each pedal. One slides inside the other. I think the metal one is NLA so I had to reuse.

The clutch pedal should only have the torsion spring on the left; the big one in the middle is early. I am doing a swap from a '68 w/ hydrolic clutch to a '72. So I am not relly sure yet what is going to work. There is a special bolt/washer bushing for the m/c.

The brake has circlip that holds in the pin. Hopefully it is a bmw circlip that sticks out making it easier to grab.

The main bolt slides out a hole on the pass side covered by a plug - at least for the early style. I didn't try to do it in the car, but i think it would work whichever side the bolt goes threw. I had to add another washer to take some lateral play out when I was finished. I woldn't say I'm very mechanically inclined so I wouldn't call it an easy job.

I live in central NJ too. Send me an e-mail if you might want some help or an extra circlip. Now that I have the bushings for the accel. I can soon call this little project done!

how come I never saw your car around? then again I am not in Cranbery that much. And i haven't been able to drive my 02 for almost 1 yr. U know robert? He saw me working on the car one day and stopped by and we became aquaintances. Lives in millstone. They are definately rare around here. I saw a brown one in princeton a fews years back and the dude with the 1600 who works at quaker bridge.

I checked my profile and it doesn't have my e-mail so it's
bmw2002driver1971 at yahoo.com. Once I finish up a little shopping I have a bunch of parts I need to clean up in prep of getting the shell back. That is how I have to use up some vac days next week.

What is that big spring in the middle for? The mechanical clutch? I just rebuilt my pedal box and have that spring but my box didn't have anyplace for it to go.

Yes, I know Robert, he guided my father and I up the parkway to 02 Fest. I'm actually in Monroe Twp., near Jamesburg, and Spotswood. I'm about 15-20 min from Millstone.

Harv, I mean John W.-

I think that spring in the middle has got to go. I thought it was for the mechanical clutch too. The PO muat have left it there.

All i know is the clutch felt pretty light with this spring, and now i cant figure out how it would be the correct tension since it wants to hit the floor.

Subject: SteveH and Gabe, time to meet in person

SteveH, Gabe is one of the "hard core" '02 enthusiasts in the area. I met him by chance while driving through Hightstown one day and noticing his Sahara 71 (now Golf) on the driveway. The other two guys active in our area are Christian Redding and Steve Shevlin. Let's see if we can get together sometime in the spring.

I'm in the process of taking apart my tii. I'm bringing it up to the McGinn brothers for a respray, hopefully in January (Matt, are you listening?) In the meantime, I'll be working on the Verona 73 installing some misc items.

Keep in touch...
