Subject: Stainless tii injection lines small update

I finally talked to Tom at classic tubes today.

We talked about the vibration issue with using solid stainless lines and he's going to run it by the engineers there about how to make sure metal fatique won't be a factor with all our shaking engines.

We also talked about doing a braided stainless line if they can't find a strategy to overcome that issue.

They seem pretty confident they can produce a set of lines for around $100.

He's going to get back to me once they figure a source for the fittings -- that seems to be the main issue. Then the plan is for him to send out a sample and if they work well, we'll have them available.

I'm hoping to get a price that is less or equal to the BMW lines that funciton well and look great.

we'll see !!

Don't know about stainless, but my benz has plated steel injector lines that show no signs of fatique in 23 years and 205,000 miles... on a diesel.

the plastic lines do work. They get kind of yellow and ugly though.

Also I guess the new replacement lines you order from BMW aren't bent right, so they're a pain to install without a heat gun. So I figured why pay $33 a pop for lines that don't fit and get ugly?

....THE REASON SOLID METAL injector lines on Mercedes-Benz
diesels last 1,000,000 miles is there are noise and vibration
damper blocks holding 2 and 3 lines together. 2 pieces of clamping metal
at the middle of the lines to dampen out noises, harmful vibrations, and prevent fatigue breakage. Look onder the hood of any 60's, 70's 80's M-B diesel. Here's my stinking diesel >

thanks!

where'd you get the idea vibration would be an issue? do you know someone who tried this, and experienced this failure? or was it just a naysayer- you know, the kind of person who enjoys shooting people down?

until recently, just about every piece of heavy construction equipment has used a mechanical fuel injection system closely similar to our k-fisch pump. scrapers, front-end loaders, bulldozers and motor graders by all the different manufacturors use this style of hard line. all diesels, and all in severe work environments. the only reason they changed was emissions regulations- mechanical f.i. is too dirty, even for dirt jobs. (pun intended)

count me in for a set @ $100 or so. also, you might re-think the stainless idea- mild steel probably would be more resistant to cracking. i don't claim to know that, i'm just a dirt-bag surveyor.

Heavy duty engines rarely rev past 2500 RPM. In my experience with my race car, vibration can kill a lot of things. I am sticking with my nylon lines. G

Stainless has a higher fatigue life than most other steels close to that of ti or spring steel. There should not be any problem with fatigue.
