its gonna be a little more involved than that, i did look into it. might be some parts that will work on, but the left engine support (41111840967..http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=ST12&mospid=47140&btnr=41_1167&hg=41&fg=10)
is completely toast. from the wheel back is completely rusted out and been bent in (more than likely with a jack) and it needs to be replaced.

i just bought this old girl and she needs attention bad. i want to do all the work myself, it will be my first restoration project, and im looking forward to learning and picking up the hobby. i just want to know if its possible to weld a new one on there or what would be the best way to approch this.

any other info or advice would be appreceated

The only way is to turn her over, the rail is spot welded to the body, remove spot welds and this will give you markings for the replacement rail.
Bolt in your subframe to the other rail then lign up the new rail bolt it to the subframe and weld it in, Saturday afternoon job, yeah.
On this race car rail you will see reinforcements wrapped round the rail, bit more strength for the jack or axle stands.

make that floor pan mods, trunk mods, firewall movement, fresh air inlet heater box mount removal, wiper removal, tranny tunnel widened, possibly pedal box movement, and then a tiny little frame rail repair. Now that's a nice little "saturday afternoon project"

Just to wet the appetite, cutting away the subframe to lower the engine, note alloy engine mounts.
