Thread Topic: Moto Lita Steering wheel cover vinyl paint? Threaded

Subject: Moto Lita Steering wheel cover vinyl paint?

Does anyone have a moto lita steering wheel that they use on an 02? I got one with a hub, but the leather on the outside is a little nicked. Where it is nicked it is faded brown. I'm wondering if anyone has used vinyl paint for steeringwheel covers. I'm afraid it will come off in my hands if I try it, but I figure vinyl paint (like for seats) would adhere well. Has anyone tried it? Does anyone have a moto lita wheel?

30 years, and I have a spare too. I would go to leatherique.com and get the cleaner, restorer and dye and do the leather properly. You could always touch-up spots with a black permanent marker, but if it's a general wearing of the dye a refurb done properly will be the best thing to do. I painted my spokes black with Krylon semi-flat black as they were polished and too bright. I prefer the black wheels.

go to a shoe shop, drugstore etc and buy a bottle of "edge dye" for shoes. This is a black liquid dye that's meant to keep the edge of your shoe soles nice and black (ask anyone who's been in the military and they can tell you about this stuff). It has an applicator in the bottle.

It's great for re-dying steering wheel leather as it won't come off on your hands when dry and it's easily applied. If you do it with the wheel on the car, put some newspapers in your lap--it'll stain your clothes, skin and your front seat if you spill any.

Works better than the vinyl paint, as it soaks into the leather rather than laying on the surface

cheers
mike
