I am wondering about what type of floor finish to use in my new garage/workshop. Cost aside, what type of finish would you use if you had the choice? What options are there?
In my last garage floor, I used light grey, hardened and polished concrete. It was okay, but was not terribly impressed by the color (not cheap exactly) or the stain resistance.
The latest Fine Homebuilding issue shows plastic 12" x12" tile that has a checker plate style finish. I wonder how that might be? Maybe just part of the shop could use it so it looks nice? How about the epoxy roll on stuff? It is rather costly though. I want to use radiant heating in the floor, so I wonder if that precludes the use of plastic tiles?
My old next door neighbor restores Mercedes Gullwings. He had India rugs on the display/storage part of his shop. How about using rugs, hehe?

I'd recommend looking at Griot's Garage website, not necessarily to buy from them, but to get ideas. They sell both epoxy coatings which I've seen and which I think look really nice, and also plastic tiles/floor mats that look nice also.
In my next home that I have built, I will epoxy coat the garage floor prior to any car ever being on the concrete. Can't wait.
PS - if u buy from Griots, ask for Greg when u call. (shameless plug for benetton) _________________ gwb72tii

Check out the flooring section on the http://garagejunkies.net/ website. I haven't seen rugs discussed there, but just about everything else has been brought up. Good luck!
You might want to get some ideas from John Weese as well, he recently had a new garage built.

I am also interested in the options. I'll be sealing the floor of a 4400 sqft shop in the spring!

white is good. So much easier to find errant little parts making a bid for freedom. _________________ Tom

I have a 6ft wide strip of industrial carpet on the back and one side wall of my garage, makes working in it a dream (beats the crap out of cold concrete on the feet).

I painted my floor with Sherwin-Williams Armor Seal about 14 months ago. I'm very impressed with how it's holding up.
