Subject: Locked trunk - NO KEYS ?????
|

I just pick up my new 1602 (I posted pics a while back) but the trunk is locked. How do I open it?? I only got the one key for the ignition, but that does not work. I have read a post involving a length of 4x2 and a friend, but I can't find it. Please help. Beaner7102 (& 72' 1602) _________________ 1971 - 2002 RHD VIN 1653940. Had the same problem and used a short 2x4 squarely set on the tumbler--had a friend hold it and banged the thing with a sledge hammer.Mine popped the trunk and the key code sticker was on the trunk lock assembly.I got lucky! I was probably getting close to bending my rear panel---give it a shot but be careful!

Exactly..... take a 2x4 about 24" long, pad the end well with a towel or something, set it squarely dead center on the trunk lock and smack the f$#@k out of it with a 5lb sledge (the correct amount of smack is critical) the trunk will pop open and then you can work out your key issue. This can be done on even the nicest of cars and won't hurt anything at all if you do it right.

You did ask the previous owner if he still had the key, did you not? Otherwise, I'd say the best method would be to drill out the lock cylinder. Replacements are cheap. _________________ Jeremy

Hey mate,
Good to see the cops didnt take it off you! Hahaha How does it go?
Hope the boot gets sorted, I think the locksmith is a good start personally.

The worst part was that the new cylinders don't have the pin in back staked well enough.
So after getting into the trunk (see below) and spending $108.95 the damned thing came apart 2 months later and I had to do the same thing all over again.
I'd go the locksmith route myself...

I have a special tool that I fabricated that can open a locked trunk, but it is difficult and can sacrifice the trunk seal in a small area.
Still easier to smack it with a padded 2x4 and re-key the lock. Check out Zenons site for intructions on doing this...
[url]http://www.zeebuck.com/bimmers/bmvseite/ you can make the trunk lock open with the ign key or match an old trunk/boot key.
