Subject: 11/30 is my last day

After 30 years with IBM and 11.5 with the state of NC, I've decided to get the heck out of managing software developers!!! Time for a fun job because it is the only way I can afford to keep the 204 car on the track. By the first of the year, I expect to be associated with a local vintage race car prep shop as the front desk/parts manager.

Congratulations. Life is short. IT sucks. Live the dream.

Ask Lance if he remembers me rebuilding the suspension of my 1600 in his garage 8 or 9 years ago.

Cheers,
Derek

Congratulations Bob! I quit HP this last summer after 22 years and have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. I'm running my own business part-time and helping a friend get a new business going with the rest of my time. I love it.

sometimes it takes a leap of faith, sometimes it just happens. I didn't hate the corporate world, but I am kind of glad I am out of it too...

Main difference is that working for GE I had a boss, now all my customers are my boss!

I've been thinking of doing the same for the last couple of months.

One of my best friends, who was my mentor in the ocean transportation business when I started over 20 yrs ago and my best employee for the last 9 years, passed away two days ago.

He had really been looking forward to his retirement next year, but had complications from a seemingly routine kidney stone operation and had been in a coma since late July . This has taught me a lesson about life and work and how you need to have a balance.

Michael,
You need to tweek your tagline slightly-
"The liver is my friend, it must not be punished, but it is OK to tease him a bit from time to time."

I think you and your liver just need to agree upon a "safe" word.

I spent the morning pulling the engine and tranny. I then pulled the head off
and put new rocker rods in and put the head back togehter. Since I'm the house boy, I need to go do the grocery shopping!!!

BTW, Lance is selling the o2 racecar he was building. So if anyone know some one who would be interested in the 4th generation of Skidmark Racers now is the time, Pick your color....etc.
