Subject: Oil pressure relief valve

Hi all,
I'm assembling a 02Tii engine for a friend that did the disassembly, and I a little concerned with the way the pressure relief valve is going together.

I have assembled it as the manual shows, but there seems to be about a 1/4 of slop before the spring has tension (with the engine upside down on the stand, I can pull up on the little tube a 1/4" before it tops off on the retainer).
Most valves I have dealt with in the past have a bit of spring tension at all times, if not a good amount.
There was not spec on it in the manual that I could find.

Any help prior to dropping the engine back in would be great. I'd hate to have to tear it apart while it's in the car.

Thanks

The pressure relief spring free length is listed in the manual (2.68"), look at the "specs" for the oil pump.
