Are you talking about the selector rod seal? if so you do not need to remove the trans. It would be easier to do with the driveshaft dropped, but still not to bad. BTW I have a 5 speed, never done it ...

Or the most insidious...your under hood gasket is in place but it has jumped from its channel. Stuff that thing back in and your eyes will quit watering and headaches will go away.

On my '74 it looks like the plastic above the lights has wept down from the heat. I've tried to file the material away with some success. My bulbs would also turn white as well as being breached.

Check the nuts on the trunk hinge mounted to the uni-body. They usually have dum-dum oozing out. If someone loosened the nuts, you'll need to re-seal them.

What kind of condition is your rear window seal in?

I just replaced the rear window seal that was leaking onto and through the rear deck. Those leaks seem to be gone.
