Ross pistons do seem to be good.

They are forged, though, so a good warmup is required,
as cold fit is a bit looser than a cast piston.

They use thin Ross rings.

If you're talking about the 'clocking' of the arm on the linkage,

I just put it in a vice, grab the other end with vice grips, and twist it
(what, about 90 degrees?)

That made mine work fine. ...

It's held in a channel-
if you can get underneath it at one end,
a soft tool will coax it out.

That sounds about right-
I ran 1/4" spacers in front with 205-60-14 RA1's.

And the rears polished the inner fender a bit-
a bit of work with a big hammer cleaned that up, and
skipped the spacer ...

If the pad behind the starter doesn't have a clear stamping on it,
I bet it's a factory rebuild or replacement.

What series (121, E12, E21, 1.8) is the head?

Usually if it's cooked to the point where it doesn't free up when it cools down,

Initial findings with AvGas (100 LL) seem to indicate that 11.5:1 is
safe. Barely, if you're a bit careful with timing.

So going to the high side of 10 is probably not a set- and- forget operat ...

See, if you leave the pipe showing and it eats your plug wires
then you have to leave it by the side of the road,
some jerk might come by and steal the nice pipe,
so I'd use the 318 gasket...

Fronts need adapted seat tracks, and then sit too far towards the door
(by about 3/4")
but I think 1 and 2 gen both work. They are good seats if you get them
for cheap, and they fit me pretty nice ...

I find if you squirt a bit of dish soap in the water
after you throw in the old undies that you use as a rag
it cleans quite a bit better.
But then you have to rinse it when you're done...

I made wide (4") flat clips, welded them to the tops of the stands
and put 'em under the front inner fender connectors
(what you'd call the 'frame rails')
