My 69 did the same thing and it was the relay that was fried in the on position. So I am assuming that Your relay is stuck in the on position also.

Make sure the wire connecting to the hot side of the coil is nice and tight. If it is loose you will loose power and the tach will die.

Could be a simple fix.

The cheapest way would be to just drive it till the tranny brakes then replace it with another 4 speed. The 4 speed is everywhere, relatively cheap, and takes about 4 hours to remove and reinstall. I ...
