The reinforcement to the body is noticeable. Body flex is practically eliminated. And it's a point to mount the harness. And it will save me in case I roll the car at the track.

And attach a removeable patch of sheet metal that can be bolted on. Access under the carpet may be tricky but it's doable.
I've seen it done on several cars.

which make them nice for a 5-speed swap from an E21.
I am doing an M20 swap with the tranny from an E30 on an automatic 74. I still had to cut the tunnel... A LOT!!!! to make the tranny fit.
