why not? if it still works and the only thing wrong with it is that the diaphram is old and leaking gas, why not just change the diaphram?

I'm a little confused. Can I just pull a fuel pump out of a mid 80's and have it be a bolt on fix?

I'd rather not go the electrical route seeing as I'd have no idea what I was doing.

I just called my local BMW, detailing my problems, and was told that since the pump was leaking gas, I'd need a whole new fuel pump.
