Try turning up the wire speed on your welder and you should be able to get smoother welds. If its spitting like that its because of that, or, you're not grounded well.

Thanks for all the feedback. It sounds like its probably the best choice for me. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't too loud or that it droned like the Ansa.

Maybe try C.D.'s trick of filling it with diesel fuel for a bit and let that evaporate off. He claims it cleans all the crud out quite nicely.

A fantastic book on car painting is "How To Paint Your Car" from Motorbooks. ISBN 0-7603-1583-3. It can be had at Borders for $19.95. I've seen it at several.
