Having watched this from afar for years now and having 5 minutes before dinner, I thought I'd chime in for a change. Without wanting to re-state the obvious, it seems that Al does good work but reliability seems to be a big issue. There is certainly enough evidence based upon Al's own responses in this and other forums that he has had problems, personal issues, life threatening disasters, etc, that have meant he couldn't deliver in quite a few circumstances. And NOT just a handful is my take on it. I would suggest that most people that buy (or intended to buy) from Al will never meet him nor wish to (a function of geography) - so whether he is a great guy in person who'd give you the shirt off his back, trying to open multiple businesses all at once or in need of a holiday (all reasons which some have suggested in the past should mitigate any non-delivery on his part), is largely irrelevant. Buyers just want a product of quality (which he seems to deliver) at an agreed price (he is a bit dearer than some competiors, but his stuff is supposedly worth it) in a commercially timely fashion (this is where it unravels a bit). (BTW - A great personal relationship is a bonus BUT comes a long fourth to the above three criteria - if you can't nail them, you're a dinosaur in the long run!) BUT as I have watched (rather perversely on my part I must admit - like looking at a train wreck!) this "debate" for years now, the whole clash of personality thing that engulfed it has fogged the key issues. So let me just impose a little on the group and talk about the Cheap/Fast/Good equation. What this little "device" has taught me in life is that you can rarely have a product/service offering that can deliver more than two of these three in any circumstance. Example, something that is great quality and cheap is often not going to be quickly delivered. If you want cheap and fast, I have rarely seen quality output come from that combination. Similarly fast and good, usually costs heaps. Now Al's stuff appears to fall into the first combination (sort of, he's not exactly cheap) - so if that's your thing, go for it. But IF you could find something that was a good fit/quality, was competitively priced and had a strong record of prompt delivery - would you choose that instead? If so, ask yourself, are there alternative to Al's company that offer that. If you find that there are, your decision becomes, self evident I would have thought. So compare the alternatives? There is certainly enough info to make an informed decision - get samples from all the vendors, take note of feedback from buyers who are happy/not happy with all suppliers in the mix and it will be crystal clear in the end. Sorry that was longer than I thought - and took about 10 minutes so I better bolt. Good luck with the decision. Richard
