Since I have not heard anything about a 2002 get together this September I have a proposal.
VARA (Vintage Auto Racing Association) is having their annual “October Fest” race at Buttonwillow Raceway September 16th and 17th of which I’m the race chairman. There’ll be about 150+ vintage race cars of all types to watch race. Real racing not a parade.
You’re all invited! It’s only $10 at the gate for the whole weekend. If there is enough interest I’ll even reserve a parking area for BMW’s. If you want to organize a BBQ, swap meet, car show, beer tasting or what ever it’s ok. There’ll be lunch time drive arounds to check out the track. You don’t need a reservation, but if someone wants to be point man and give me a head count that would help. If you need more info on the race check www.vararacing.com. If you want to contact me it’s jireland@earthlink.net or www.bmw2002.com.
Buttonwillow is on the I5 about ½ way between LA and SF. You can google their website for info and directions. There are plenty of motels both just north and just south of the track. The track does allow camping.
