We are proud to present to you the first ever BMW 2002 FAQ at the races. The first ever BMW 2002 FAQ gathering will be held at Buttonwillow Raceway Park on September 13.
VARA (Vintage Auto Racing Association) is having their annual 'Oktoberfest” race at Buttonwillow Raceway September 13th and 14th. There will be about 150+ vintage race cars of all types on the track. Real racing not a parade.
8 to 10 2002 will be participating in this year race and they will need our support.
BMW 2002 FAQ will have a designated area where we can park our cars and enjoy the race.
Camping is allowed on site if you want to stay for the entire weekend. Entrance to the racetrack is $10.
Qualifying is in the morning and races start after lunch. We will try to gather between 10:00am and 11:00am on Saturdat. If you cannot be there at that time, still show up.
Ireland Engineering will be giving discounts on their parts, plus free delivery to the racetrack.
Please reply to the thread is you pan on coming. We need to know the number of people to work out some cool details that will be a pleasant surprise to those who make it.

Thanks,
steve kupper

Steve, I am planning on coming, but it is doubtful I will be bringing my 2002. I am doing double duty that weekend and skipping out of the event saturday afternoon to attend an event in Palm Srings, then returning very late that saturday night. This is the plan at least. I may just say screw the other event and show up to take pics of kick ass german race cars shredding up a track. :) _________________ -=Scott=-

Steve,
Any idea of the time frame of the event (arrival, Head home, etc). Sounds like a good idea. We need to convince the SoCal Vintage guys to make this event their "September Drive" . Seems to be approx 3-4 hours from most of Calif. LA to SF. Even takes 3 hrs from SB. (Can't really get there from here very easily) Gonna try to make it, gotta fix my brakes first, looks like fun. _________________ Steve

Steve, i am trying to find the schedule for the event. Once i know i will get the timing a little better, but at the moment I am thinking of getting everyone there around 10:00am or 11:00am Some people might have to leave early.
Thanks for all the interest. Hope all of you and more will make it!

I'm going to be there the whole weekend and should have my 2002 with me. The other engagement isn't looking as exciting as I thought it would. Going to be down in San Diego the following weekend probably for the Unlimited Hydroplane races as well if anyone is going to that. _________________ -=Scott=-

Evan, you realize the Oktoberfest we're talking about is at Buttonwillow Raceway near Bakersfield, CA right? Or is Steve also planning on going to Germany to drink lots of beer and get sloshy drunk for the real thing as well? _________________ -=Scott=-

Ok, InkaSteve is right, we will have SoCal Vintage BMW team up with VARA and we will get a drive organized up to Buttonwillow. Everyone is right, we need to support each other as much as possible....John was talking about a drive up CA 33 to go there instead of the 5, so we'll see. I'll get things rolling on socalvintagebmw.com this weekend and start rallying troops....I think that we'll be able to have some pit access and drive on the track during the lunch break as well if i get my act together....but I'll have to get all the details for sure....
